    In 1967, Hailwood set a new lap record that lasted for 8 years; 108.77 mph. That is just slightly slower than the average lap times set by McWilliams on an upgraded, more recent Paton 500 (disc brakes, for one) in 2018. Also worth noting is that the road surface was in worse condition back in 1967 than today. In other words, those old champions really could ride - McGuinness is a 23 times IoM winner, so a good yardstick.



    So, how does a lap time of about 110 mph look like on a classic bike? Like this
